Director's Message
Welcome to Our UCLA Healthcare Value Analytics and Solutions Website!
Over the course of my career as a physician, I have been increasingly frustrated by the guilty awareness that I am taking part in a dysfunctional healthcare system. Every day millions of Americans receive unnecessary care that does not help them often is harmful. This problem – driven by a complex range of factors, from poorly aligned financial incentives to institutional norms – is one of the most challenging problems we need to address.
We launched this consortium in 2018 with the goal of facilitating collaboration to develop and implement empirically grounded and technology-based solutions that improve healthcare value across UCLA Health and the larger UC Health system. Since then we have partnered with the health system to implement and tested a range of new initiatives including, for example, electronic health record-based interventions to change physician behavior and applying AI models to identify patients most at risk of avoidable healthcare.
Our consortium is committed to not only measuring and addressing low-value care, but also working to ensure that disparities in the receipt of high-value care continue to narrow.
I am fortunate to work at UCLA Health, where our health care system leaders support these efforts and are committed to executing a system in which every patient receives the right care at the right time.
I encourage you to review this website to learn about our initiatives and partnerships, and please reach out to us if you would like to learn more or take part in our efforts.
Best regards,
